Hounslow Wolves v CB Hounslow

25th October 2020

Wolves 2-1 CB Hounslow

Wolves bounced back from last games horror show to play out a regulation 2-1 win over an always tricky CB Hounslow. Despite having several players missing due to Covid restrictions and several injuries, a contrasting Wolves team never really looked in trouble despite the scoreline suggesting otherwise. Manager Rishi handed out several starting debuts at Cranford, including Andy, Gurj, Sameer and the return of Arun slotting in at centre back to sure up the defence after the 6-1 defeat to Ivy Leaf. Never afraid to make bold decisions, Rishi dropped first team regulars Rudy, Billz, and Sergio to the bench, giving several players a real chance to hold down a regular starting spot.

Ranveer starting on the right-hand side of the middle diamond started like a man possessed, creating several chances through exciting runs and dangerous crosses, unable to be finished. CB Hounslow realised very early on they were up against it, especially after 12 minutes when Sameer was forced off due to a head injury, allowing top goal scorer Billz to take his place upfront. Within minutes, excellent work from Dylan set up skipper Sanj for a pinpoint through ball for Billz who unexpectedly squared to Gurj to make it 1-0 to the Wolves. Wolves dominated the rest of the half, putting hard training into practice. High energy, full backs Adam and Rahul were up and down constantly, with Gurj and Sanj winning every single header in the middle of the park. Arun and Jat looked composed at the back with Dylan strolling around controlling the midfield. Despite the continued pressure, it took until the 40th minute to double the lead. Another through ball for Billz, and with 4 men to beat, ducked and dived before beating the keeper with a low drilled shot. Wolves saw the half out for a well-deserved 2-0 lead.

The second half was a lot more balanced and played mainly in the middle of the park with little chances for both teams. Wolves always looked more dangerous but never really looked creative enough to grab a 3rd. It’s always said the next goal in a 2-0 game is the crucial one, and somehow CB grabbed it after a blunder from keeper Andy who was a spectator for most of the game. With 12 minutes to go, CB picked up the pace but did not possess enough quality to break down the back line again, with Wolves hanging on for a 2-1 win. Plenty of positives, but as always, plenty to work on.

Wolves still need a lot of work on creativity and attacking, but will be boosted by the performance of Ranveer, Gurj and Billz going forward. With 5 or 6 creative players to return, competition has been ramped up and with some big games in November, Wolves need to ensure they keep the momentum for the rest of 2020.
